Conceal, Reveal, Transform: A Workshop by Akshay Sethi
This one-day workshop explores mask-making as both a tactile and conceptual practice to investigate themes of identity, materiality, and anthropomorphism, particularly in relation to ecological thought. Rooted in cultural traditions and contemporary art practices, the session invites participants to examine the many meanings of masking: as a physical act, a metaphor, a process, and a poetic gesture.
A mask conceals, reveals, transforms. It can cover a face to amuse, frighten, or protect; it can become a way to present ourselves while hiding what we truly think or feel. Yet masks extend beyond the body—they can distort objects, alter environments, or veil entire architectures as camouflage. In this workshop, the mask becomes a lens to think through ecological entanglements, sustainability, and the blurred boundary between human and non-human.
