Politics | Nature | Knowledge
A Lecture by Jahnavi Phalkey, Moderated by Ravi Agarwal
9th February, 6 – 8 pm

Bruno Latour in his ‘Politics of Nature’ (1999/ tr. 2004) has argued that “political ecology has nothing to do with nature”. Sheila Jassanoff in her ‘Designs on Nature’ (2005) has argued that “biology and politics have converged today across much of the industrialised world.” A recent translation of Latour’s essay “In favour of a dialogue between political science and Science Studies” (2008/ tr. 2023), tells us more about his thinking on Science Studies as possibly the new political science. Phalkey will present her response to these arguments as part of an academic debate and also explore their relevance to curatorial work.
Plastics Recycling Tour

Drawing Relations
A Workshop on Art and Ecology, led by Arunkumar H.G and Gagan Singh
11th February, 5 – 8 PM

Sculptor and Founding Director of SARA Center, Arunkumar H.G, and artist Gagan Singh will be leading a workshop on drawing, visualisation and mapping of ecological relations. The session will think through drawing as a tool, with creative exercises that lead one through conceptual relations. Sharing posters from EcoWalk 2017 that was conducted by SARA Centre, spanning a walk of 157 kms, from Jog Falls to Shivamogga in Karnataka, the workshop will also think through different languages of graphic representation. Over 200 posters by artists were submitted towards this poster archive. Speaking through how these posters were deployed, the role of art in communication will be considered, especially in relation to ecological issues and experiences. This workshop invites artists of all ages (above 18 years) to participate.

Curated by Toxics Link in association with Shared Ecologies, this is a two-package series of artist films and video works by Indian artists, that respond to ecology, environmental crises and our deep relationship with nature. The films consider nature and the looming collapse of environmental systems, through poetic and artistic lenses. Between performative gesture, and the documentary form, the artists employ different modes of visual storytelling and expression.
