Roots Project by SARA Centre

SARA (Sustainable Alternatives for Rural Accord) Centre is located around the backwater region of the Linganamakki reservoir in the Western Ghats region of Karnataka. Once a rich biodiversity forest, it is now occupied by the relocated farming community. With increased farming activity for decades, much of the biodiversity is lost forever. SARA believes in creating awareness about the same together with the regeneration action plans. SARA Centre and many like-minded organisations are engaging the local communities through various programs to sustain this action. SWAGRAMA is one such program working closely with the village community in reviving water bodies so that sustained water availability helps all other activities like raising biodiversity. SARA aims to work as a resource centre for the benefit of the community at various levels.

As one of the main objectives for SARA Centre is to develop a dialogue within the local community about the biodiversity and cultural heritage in the region, they have focused on creating an educational display through research and critical engagement with their surroundings. Natural Heritage and Cultural Heritage form two parts of the Roots project that is currently under development.
