The Earth Studio was set up by Anish Cherian and Sujit Mallik as a way of mobilising an agricultural farm (Saagwala) in Jawli village, Ghaziabad District, Uttar Pradesh, into a site for artistic, scientific, and social experimentation, to incubate ideas on the planetary conditions and human existence in relation to other-than-human counterparts, to foreground issues of land and ecology, with farming as its core activity. It aims to be both a formal and informal gathering space, and a studio and living quarter for artists-in-residence. The grant will be supporting the development of certain infrastructures including a community hall, studio, apart from disseminating knowledge in the form of workshops and interactive discussions.
