Material Memories: A Film Curation by Shared Ecologies
28th March: 5 PM onwards
Material Memories’ looks at reconfigurations and reconstitutions of ecology through memory, in documentations, material assemblages, mythologies and shared stories.
Rahul Juneja’s ‘Crackle of an Undying Log’ is a speculative story based on the Kalpavriksha, a magical wish granting tree from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, which he locates in Karnal, Haryana, expanding on the connection between his grandfather’s memory and technological re-creation.
Karthik Subramanian’s ‘Sleepwalkers Archive’ begins with a photographer, who while walking from the estuary to the source of the waterless Kaveri river, abandons his journey after encountering a woman whose image could not be recorded by his camera. The absent archive becomes a place of investigation.
Paribartana Mohanty’s ‘The Images of Time will be replaced by the Images of Dead Animals’ is first in the series, and explores the notion of abandonment and death. It replaces the images of dead clocks found in an abandoned house in Futaba prefecture with the images of dead animals (taxidermy) collected from various Natural History Museums around the world.
