Pottery House: Film Screening and Artist Presentation

11th July: 5:30 PM Onwards

What does it mean for memory to live on as flesh? What forms do one’s lived experiences assume when they are recalled without a nostalgic sieve? Taking a decrepit architectural site as her subject, Mansi Bhatt reanimates her former home out of its traces in this experimental film, through dramaturgical devices until its curves and textures become tangible again.

Mansi Bhatt’s family occupied a house on the Khodiyar Pottery Estate across four generations (spanning 42 years) before it was demolished. The pottery plant was initiated by the artist’s grandfather, and employed the town’s inhabitants for its implementation. Currently monitored owing to disputes between the state and former factory workers, the land persists in a state of limbo. While this industry introduced a series of infrastructural changes in the town, its index is currently suspended between an active past and an uncertain future.

About the Artist
Mumbai-based artist Mansi Bhatt often works with sculptural and cinematic transformation. Mansi foresees performance art as an act of regenerative space where the performers’ presence is seen and reminisced through the prosthetic.
